Water Conservation Ordinance

Hose nozzleOdd/even and time-of-day watering restrictions in effect May 1-September 30

The City of Lakeville's water conservation ordinance was designed to encourage water conservation. Residents can only water every other day, based on the last digit of your house number. If your house number (not street number) ends in an even number, water on even-numbered calendar days. If your house number ends in an odd number, water on odd-numbered days.

Homeowners' associations and apartment complexes that provide a common irrigation system may water only every other day. Homeowners' associations and apartments north of 185th Street may water on odd-numbered calendar days and those south of 185th Street may water on even-numbered days.

In addition, watering is only allowed before 11 a.m. or after 5 p.m. each day. Watering during the heat of the day wastes water.

Residents who violate these restrictions will be given a warning for the first violation. The second violation will result in a $50 surcharge. Subsequent violations will increase the surcharge by $50 for each notice:

  • 3rd notice: $100
  • 4th notice: $150
  • 5th notice and each subsequent notice: $200

Exceptions to the watering restrictions include:

  • Limited hand-watering of plants using a hose
  • Watering of new landscaping, sod, or seed within 30 days of installation

For exceptions, such as new sod or seed, please notify the Utilities Division at (952) 985-2700. Water is a valuable and limited resource. Smart use and conservation is important to ensuring its availability now and for future generations.
